Duck Dynasty.  Wouldn’t you agree, these are probably 2 of the biggest words in the English language today?  Hey, if you don’t believe me, take a look at your Facebook page since around 7 o’clock last night.  It’s amazing how this simple North Louisiana program has brought our neck of the woods and lifestyle to living rooms all over America.  And, Hey Jack, we’re Happy, Happy, Happy about it. A bunch of guys who just a couple of years ago wouldn’t have even gotten noticed if they were riding unicycles naked at the mall, are drawing 2 hour long lines to buy a plastic tea glass, a quick picture and an autograph.  I mean, they are us…we are them.

Everything they do is something we’ve either tried or at least thought about and yet it’s some of the most compelling television I’ve seen in years.  How many other programs today can get the entire family TOGETHER for an evening on the couch while we laugh and wonder what it would be like to spend a day in the duck blind with them or sit around the dinner table while Phil prays over the freshly caught frog legs or boiled crawfish?

Though not from North Louisiana, Troy Landry and the Swamp People gang is the closest to the Duck Commanders to putting us hard working Louisianians in the light we feel we deserve.   I’m not knocking Billy the Exterminator, but, for the longest, I'd get  really nervous everytime one of my radio buddies came to visit from outside the area, they were going to expect all of us to wear black leather and have spiked hair.

And our way of life is evidently big business for Hollywood these days with other shows like Cajun Pawn Stars from Alexandria but are we really like the gang from Bayou Billionaires and Big Redneck Vacation?  Saying that we’re like them is like saying that a parakeet is like an ostrich because they’re both birds.

The boys of Duck Dynasty have coined words and phrases that most of the country can’t even pronounce, but we completely understand like “Jase speaks Duckaneese” and “Si is a Redneckoleptic”.  We feel we know Willie and Si and Jase and Phil.  In fact, we know someone just like each one of them.  Miss Kay is just like your Momma and mine.  Their wives are all beautiful….just like ours….and their checking accounts….well their checking accounts are what ours hope to be when they grow up.

So, Robertson family, thank you for making us the stars we were all born to be.  Keep it up cause we’re loving every minute of it! Course, that’s just how this man sees it.
