No, this is not a joke, but it is absolutely going down as an instant Louisiana legend.

Seriously, since when are local alligators officially assisting the Louisiana State Police with tracking down and making arrests? Forget the K-9 units, at this rate, should we just swap out the German Shepherds for gators?

The Louisiana State Police took to their Facebook page to share a wild story that you truly have to read to believe. According to LSP, Troopers with Troop B originally responded to reports of a Toyota Supra being driven completely recklessly on Interstate 10 near Bonnabel Boulevard in Jefferson Parish. The driver had already struck a concrete barrier and was riding on a blown-out tire.

Troopers eventually located the vehicle traveling down Interstate 310 in St. Charles Parish and pulled it over. While speaking with the driver, identified as 40-year-old Victor Rivas of Montz, Troopers noticed clear signs of impairment. But during the DWI investigation, Rivas decided to make a run for it. He fled on foot and literally jumped off the elevated portion of I-310 straight into the swamp below.

LSP and the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office launched a massive search and eventually spotted him walking along U.S. Highway 61. When law enforcement approached, Rivas fled again into a swampy area. That is where local wildlife decided to step in.

Rivas was attacked by an alligator, sustaining injuries to both of his arms. Despite getting bit, he kept running before drones finally located and apprehended him.

Rivas was treated at a local hospital and slapped with charges including DWI, Resisting an Officer, Hit and Run, and Careless Operation.

State Police ended their post with a reminder that impaired driving leads to unpredictable consequences. Clearly! Is this officially the most Louisiana crime story of all time?
