All week Benton Elementary has been paying homage to our nation’s military and veterans. It continues tomorrow when the school will hold its second annual Heroes Walk. The public is invited to attend the event which is taking place from 3-7pm at the Benton Elementary Heroes Track.
Wednesday marks the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Memorial services will be held all across the country, many involving a reading of the victims' names.
10 years ago tomorrow, millions of Americans will reflect on the tragedy that was 9-11-01 and collectively we will grieve. At the same time we'll rejoice that our wonderful country not only survived, but has taken steps to reassure its citizens that terrorist behavior will not be tolerated or repeated.
As Kiss Country continues to reflect on one of the worst days in American History, we are reminded that an act of cowardice could never destroy the fiber that IS America. Within hours of the attacks on the World Trade Center September 11, 2001, George Bush said, "The resolve of our great nation is being tested. Make no mistake, we will show the world that we will pass this test!"

The memories of that dreadful day are as clear as if it were yesterday. We promised as a country to "NEVER FORGET" and to be perfectly honest, I don't think we could forget even if we wanted to. FREE BBQ for our hard working first responders and military! In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, Kroger is "Honoring Our Heroes" with a free barbeque lunch. All emergency services personnel and active military members are invited to join the festivities this Friday, September 9th from 11-2 at Kroger on the corner of Youree Drive and East 70th.
