South Bossier Bridge Set to be Demolished Next Month
It was earlier this month, on July 4th, when the traffic nightmare began for motorists in south Bossier parish.
It was on that day that a Bossier Parish Sheriff's Deputy reported a buckle in the Caplis-Sligo Bridge over Red Chute Bayou in south Bossier parish.
The Bossier Parish Police Jury, owners of the bridge, promptly closed the bridge citing the structural damage and its potential danger to motorists.
The Caplis-Sligo Bridge has been closed since that time and now the Bossier Parish Police Jury is reporting the demolition of the current bridge will begin August 12.
The structure was originally scheduled for repair in October of this year, but the Police Jury's findings show that it's beyond repair and must be replaced.
Contractors will begin the process with the bridge removal and will begin driving new bride piles when ready, but don't expect the girders for the new structure to arrive until January/February 2025.
Dependent on weather conditions and material availability, Louisiana Department of Transportation representatives hope to have the new bridge installed by mid-2025.
