LDWF Announces Major Upgrades At North Bossier Parish Lake Ivan

Though it's been a few years since my last visit, I honestly believe Lake Ivan in north Bossier Parish, could be one of the absolute best fisheries in all of Louisiana.

While it's not necessarily suited for many other traditional water sports, this little 545 acre impoundment is solid gold for both anglers and duck hunters.

And now, in a post on Facebook, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has announced a number of recent improvements they have made to Lake Ivan.

Hats off to LDWF to undertaking this monumental task as they made improvements to the fishing piers and surrounding areas that Lake Ivan visitors are sure to enjoy. Just look at all they've worked on:

• Replacing damaged boards on all 5 fishing piers
• Stabilizing pier railings to improve safety
• Clearing and mulching bank fishing areas near the piers
• Erosion control work along sidewalks
• Maintenance of channel marker signs
• Drainage improvements to help protect the piers from future damage

Ivan Lake, formed in the 1950's by the United State Army Corps of Engineers and subsequently leased to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, underwent a complete renovation from 2006-2011, with fishing piers and channel markers installed in 2012.

And now, in 2026, these latest improvements continue to solidify Ivan as a popular destination.

Just remember, if you plan to visit Lake Ivan, since it's actually part of Bodcau Wildlife Management Area, all users are required to have a WMA Access Permit and complete a Self-Clearing Permit.
