Rock Solid CEO Says Shreveport Has Awarded Them Contract to Run Pools

It looks like there is a deal to award a Shreveport non profit the contract to run the five city pools this summer.

Rock Solid CEO Shelly McMillian texted me late last night saying "we got the pools."

I am awaiting confirmation from Shreveport leaders. But McMillian posted this message on Facebook:

We got the City pool contract! We fought together and we won! Now it’s time to get people certified and give lots of people great jobs! So if you or your kiddo needs a job, inbox us or text me at 318-470-8904 and we will get them certified and put them to work! We won’t just pay them! We will Impact then In ways that parents hope we will!

City spokeswoman Marquel Sennet tells KEEL News something should be released today about the management of the pools. We asked her if the projected opening date is still June 7th and she said "Our goal is to open the pools."

The Rock Solid team will have to get hopping. The 5 city pools are scheduled to open 2 weeks from today. The SPAR website has this information posted about the pool schedule for this summer:

2022 POOL SCHEDULE

All pools are scheduled to open on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

The pool season ends on Sunday, July 31, 2022, for all pools except Southern Hills, which will open weekends only and close on Labor Day.

McMillian says she was hurt when she learned 2 weeks ago that the city was going to award the contract to an Atlanta company. But she did not quit. She says "tonight I found out that everything has been settled! that being said, we will be running the city pools. What does she need to get up and going? She says they immediately need workers. She is also beginning to put together a list of youngsters who need swim lessons. She's also looking for sponsors to help underwrite the cost of the lessons.
