The Shreveport City Council has approved a 13% pay raise for all city workers. The final vote was 5-2 for the increase. Councilmen John Nickelson and Grayson Boucher voted against the increase citing a concern that the amount is not sustainable.

Both men made it clear that they do support a 13% increase for police and fire, but they could not support such a high increase for other city workers because of concerns about funding that amount over the long haul.

When Does Shreveport Pay Raise Go into Effect?

The pay raise for all Shreveport city workers will go into effect in February. The higher pay will be reflected on the February 15 paychecks.

Mayor Adrian Perkins posted this message on social media:

Our employees are the backbone of our city and provide services that are vital to the well-being of each and every one of our citizens.

Ahead of the Christmas holiday, I stood with council members and city employees to announce a plan to provide a 13 percent raise to full-time employees and today council approved the salary increase.

This is the first significant raise in more than a decade for employees and we hope it shows that we value your service to our city.

How Will the Pay Raise Be Funded?

More than $7 million will come from the General Fund Operating Reserve. Some of the money will also come from American Rescue Plan funds and increased sales tax revenue. Numbers show sales tax revenues are up by about $14 million dollars this year. Councilmembers are optimistic sales tax receipts will continue to grow.
