The good news is that construction crews are making great progress with the I-20 reconstruction project in Bossier City.

The project is on schedule and should be complete in just a few short months. The bad news is that until that time, all commercial vehicles including 18-wheelers continue to be prohibited from using the I-20 construction zone in the Shreveport/Bossier City area, with the detour being I-220.

So, anytime we have an issue on I-220, it really complicates matters. And according to the latest announcement from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we'll have another of those issues this Friday, September 26.

In the notice to all motorists, DOTD advises that this Friday, September 26, I-220 westbound between the I-49 and N. Market Street interchanges in Shreveport will be reduced to one lane.

The DOTD's alert goes on to say that this lane closure is necessary for SWEPCO to perform work to move electrical lines located in this area and the closure will take place Friday only, from approximately 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Please travel with caution and be aware of crews and equipment in the area. Any previously permitted oversized loads will be accommodated through the work zone.

This work will be done "Weather Permitting" so any inclement weather could delay, extend or alter in other ways, the scheduled work day/hours for this project.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
