I learn something new every day. Every family has its traditions and until today, I never heard of "Texas Trash". But, as Gary McCoy and I were talking about some of our very favorite holiday foods, he told me about this spicy crunchy concoction and I cannot wait to try it.

Turns out, people love their Texas Trash and everyone seems to make it a little bit different. Here is the best rated recipe I could find for this holiday treat. (Found this on food.com) I really like the idea of adding a pinch of sugar to it to add a little bit of sweet to the spice!

  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons seasoning salt
  • 1 tablespoonWorcestershire Sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Tabasco sauce
  • 1 cup Cheerios toasted oat cereal
  • 2 cups Wheat Chex
  • 2 cups Rice Chex
  • 2 cups Corn Chex
  • 1 cup pretzel
  • 1 cup nuts

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 250

2. Mix the first 7 ingredients in a cup with a spout

3. Mix all dry ingredients in a baking pan.

4. Pour the butter and seasonings over the dry mix, stirring until each piece is coated.

5. Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.

6. Cool, then stir in an air tight container. The recipe says that this Texas Trash even freezes well!

We love it when you share your recipes with us! So tell us your favorites or how you make your "Texas Trash"! Unless, of course, it is a super secret family recipe--we completely understand. In that case, we will just have to try the food itself! ;)
