
Ice Cream Bars in Louisiana Recalled Due to Listeria Contamination
Lafayette, Louisiana (KPEL-FM) - A major ice cream bar recall, recalling millions of ice cream bars including products sold in Louisiana due to concerns over listeria contamination.
Alarmingly, some of these ice cream bars were sold to schools.
What Is Listeria Bacteria?
The Listeria bacteria found in soil, water, animal droppings, and decaying vegetation.
Listeria contaminate a wide range of foods, especially those stored in the refrigerator.
Listeria contamination can happen to a wide range of foods such hot dogs, cold cuts, deli meats, milk, cheese, soft cheeses, prepackaged foods like coleslaw, bagged lettuce, fruit mixes, as well as sprouts and raw vegetables.

Symptoms Of Listeria or Listeriosis
How would you even know if you've unknowingly eaten something ripe with Listeria?
According to the CDC, symptoms occur within a few days and can take as long as 2 months to show up.
Common symptoms of Listeria infection include what is described as mild, flu-like symptoms such as fever, nausea, muscle aches and pains, and fatigue.
Pregnant women, newborns, elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are considered to be a high-risk group.
These groups face considerably more severe dangers such as meningitis, blood sepsis, miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or newborn infection.
Rich’s Ice Cream Listeria Recall
According to newsbreak.com, over 100,000 cases of Rich's Ice Cream bars, equaling to millions of ice cream bars, that have been sold in 23 states are under an FDA Class II recall due to Listeria contamination.
Louisiana is one of the 23 states included in the recall.
