Road ‘Blow-Up’ Causes Emergency Closure Of I-49 in Shreveport Thursday
The summer heat is wreaking havoc on Shreveport roads this summer.

It was only a few weeks ago, DOTD had to shut down lanes of I-220 to repair what they call "blow ups" caused by the summer heat.
Apparently, those "blow ups" weren't exclusive to I-220 near Lakeshore and Jefferson Paige roads, and DOTD has announced they will soon go to work on another of these on I-49 in Shreveport.
In an announcement from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we learn that this Thursday, August 7, the right (outside) lane of I-49 northbound at the Hollywood/Pierremont interchange (Exit 203) will be closed between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Additionally, the I-49 northbound on-ramp from Pierremont Rd. will be closed for the same period.

This lane/ramp closure is necessary to allow DOTD crews to perform emergency roadway repairs for the reported "blow up" or "road buckle" at this location.
While these blow ups are infrequent, they are somewhat expected, as periods of extreme heat can cause pavement to expand, resulting in buckling at the roadway joints and DOTD is prepared to handle these issues as quickly as possible.
This work will be performed "Weather Permitting" so inclement weather could postpone, extend, or alter in other ways, the scheduled work day/hours.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
