Emergency Closure of Downtown Shreveport Bridge a Traffic Nightmare
UPDATE: This bridge was inspected and deemed safe for travel and was reopened approximately 2:45pm on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
Original Story:
The traffic alert we just received from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is not only scary, but will cause some major traffic headaches for a while.

In that alert, DOTD advises that due to gas line attached to a bridge, there has been an immediate emergency closure of the southbound LA 1 (North Market Street) bridge over Twelve Mile Bayou near downtown Shreveport.
For those familiar with the area, this is the bridge next to the old Dupont Fish Market, approximately 0.22 miles north of the intersection with Caddo Street and just north of the Shreveport Convention Center.
Obviously, safety is paramount in this situation and we're told that DOTD crews will conduct an extensive inspection of the bridge to ensure it's safety before there is any thought to the bridge's reopening.
DOTD also notes that they will issue an immediate update once the bridge has been deemed safe enough for reopening to travel.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
