I-20 Traffic In Minden Will Be a Challenge With Closures This Friday
It's safe to say that for decades, motorists have taken the convenience of using I-20 for granted.
That is, until the recent reconstruction project in the Bossier City area. It's been during this time that we get a little better grasp of just how often we really need the access to one of the south's most heavily traveled east/west corridors.
According to portcb.com, nearly 100,000 vehicles travel along I-20 through Shreveport and Bossier City every day. But with the recent construction, one can only assume that number is greatly reduced.
Constructed in 1957, I-20 has seen it's share of traffic issues, but I can only recall one other time, back in the 1990's when a large section of I-20 was reconstructed in the Shreveport area, that things were as slow as at present.
Guess we are actually pretty fortunate that we've really been somewhat shielded from never-ending construction projects that tend to plague other cities.
With that said, the Minden area is in for another day of I-20 congestion coming up this Friday, August 16.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has sent an announcement to motorists that this Friday, there will be intermittent lane closures on I-20 in both the eastbound and westbound directions at the LA 531 interchange near Minden.
Drivers should expect to encounter these intermittent lane closures from approximately 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
These lane closures are necessary to allow the contractor continue to safely perform overhead construction work on the ongoing LA 531 overpass replacement project.
Of course, this work will be done 'Weather Permitting.'
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
