LA DOTD Announces New Traffic Stop at LA 157 and Sligo Road

Drivers in South Bossier Parish need to be aware of a huge change tomorrow that will certainly affect traffic but will hopefully save lives.

Beginning tomorrow, Thursday, July 9, drivers should prepare for a new all-way (four-way) stop at the intersection of LA 157 and Sligo Road in southeast Bossier Parish.

Studies, like the one conducted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, have proven that when an intersection has a history of accidents or poor sight lines, converting it to an all-way stop can reduce total crashes by up to 55% and fatal/serious injury collisions by over 90%.

But, before installing a four-way stop, traffic engineers generally require a formal study to prove it is warranted, as unwarranted stop signs can lead to more driver confusion, rear-end collisions, and increased delays. LADOTD conducted such a traffic study at this intersection and determined that while the warrants weren't met for the installation of a traffic signal, warrants were met for an all-way (four way) stop.

After consideration of the results of this study, and in an effort to reduce crashes and potentially save lives, tomorrow, July 9, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will have crews installing the appropriate signage and pavement markings at the intersection of LA 157 and Sligo Road for conversion to an all-way (commonly referred to as a 4-way) stop from its current two-way stop scenario.

Of course, this will be done "Weather Permitting" so inclement weather could alter the scheduled work day.

Motorists should be aware of the new configuration, remove all distractions while driving, and be aware of their surroundings and any changing roadway conditions.
