New Nightly Closures For Jimmie Davis Bridge Project Announced

Nighttime drivers on the Arthur Ray Teague Parkway near the Jimmie Davis Bridge in Bossier City should expect possible delays beginning next Friday, July 10.

The upcoming lane closures are necessary as part of the construction of the new Jimmie Davis Bridge over Red River in Bossier and Caddo parishes.

A little over two years ago, in May 2024, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development kicked off construction of the new four-lane Jimmie Davis Bridge, along with improvements to LA 511. In addition to the new four-lane bridge being built just north of the existing two-lane structure, the roadway on each side of the bridge is being widened and reconstructed to accommodate two lanes of traffic in each direction, including a raised median and three new median openings for U-turns.

As the project, which is scheduled for completion at the end of 2027, continues to move forward, DOTD has issued an advisory to drivers that intermittent nighttime road closures will be necessary on the Arthur Ray Teague Parkway in Bossier City.

Those intermittent closures will begin next Friday, July 10 and are scheduled to continue through August 7. During this time drivers should expect intermittent road closures of the ART Parkway at night only (both directions), from approximately 6:00 pm to 6:00 am at its interchange with the Jimmie Davis Bridge.

Of course, with work of this type, inclement weather could alter the scheduled work day/hours.

The closures are necessary to allow for the placement of girders on the east side of the new bridge structure.

Drivers wishing to go northbound on the ART Parkway will be detoured via LA 511 to US 71 (Barksdale Blvd) northbound to Walker Place and back to ART Parkway.

Drivers wishing to go southbound on ART Parkway will be detoured via Walker Place to US 71 (Barksdale Blvd) southbound to LA 612 (Sligo Rd) and back to ART Parkway.

Drivers are strongly urged to use extreme caution when navigating the construction zone, pay attention to detour and other signage, eliminate distractions, and never operate a vehicle while impaired.
