As a TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) Advocate myself, I can personally attest to what Volunteers for Youth Justice do for our community. From advocates like myself working with foster families to providing CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, TASC (Truancy Assessment Service Center) and facilitating youth programs, like JumpStart, Gems and Gents Youth Mentoring, and more, every dime raised for this organization is helping children right here in our area!

In fact, in one year, VYJ was able to provide services for 6,700 children in our area! I can't imagine what our community would be like without Volunteers for Youth Justice. That's why their annual fundraiser, the Battle of the Gumbo Gladiators, is so important! Plus, you can always have a good time while supporting our community, which is always a bonus in my book! Here's what Aimie Baham, Development Director for VYJ has to say about the event:

The Seventh Annual Battle of the Gumbo Gladiators Gumbo Cook-off will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport. Gates open at Noon and the awards will take place at 4:00. Admission is FREE and gumbo samples are only $2 each.

Looking for a great team-building event for your employees? Sponsor a Gumbo Gladiators cooking team and bring everyone together to prepare a delicious pot of gumbo. The teams tell us each year how much fun they have during this event.

Last year we had 45 teams, cooking 55 pots of fabulous gumbo and boasted teams from Breaux Bridge, Texarkana, and as far away as Lufkin to join our local teams hoping to take home the trophy for the tastiest gumbo in North Louisiana!

All proceeds of the event support the work of Volunteers for Youth Justice, a nonprofit organization which provides a community caring for children, youth and families in crisis. Learn more at
