To that point, the NWS has just announced a Winter Storm Watch that will begin at 6:00 am this Friday, January 23, and will extend through 12:00 pm on Sunday, January 25.

The area for this watch includes portions of south central and southwest Arkansas, north central and northwest Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma, and east and northeast Texas.

Forecasters have revealed that our area will possibly see heavy mixed precipitation. In the watch, NWS indicates that total snow and sleet accumulations up to 8 inches and ice accumulations between three tenths and one half of an inch possible.

The Winter Storm Watch, which will likely be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning in the coming days, highlights the possible impacts of this weather indicating that residents should expect power outages and tree damage due to the ice.

Travel could be limited to near impossible in certain areas. Hazardous conditions could impact all commutes into Monday after precipitation has ended due to refreezing ice on roadways.

What Do Residents Need To Do To Prepare For This Storm's Arrival?

The National Weather Service also posted on social media the need for residents to prepare homes for these sub-freezing conditions.

Other items on our preparation checklist should include cars, livestock, and as NWS indicates: People, Pets and Plants.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution.

Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.
