Women are Paving the Way at Shreveport’s Woman’s Department Club
If you’re not familiar with the Woman’s Department Club in Shreveport, it’s definitely a place to check out! It’s located on Margaret Place and the building is absolutely gorgeous!
The Woman’s Department Club was formed in 1919 by a group of women who were ‘influenced by the Hypathia Literary Club.’ You might ask what the ‘departments’ are and they include: literature, art, education, garden and music. The club was built in 1925 and is included on the National Historical Society Register.
Almost 100 years later, the Woman’s Department Club is still going strong! The event is the home of special functions, programming and is even available to rent for special events.
The ladies of the Woman’s Department Club are asking for your help to continue the legacy. They’re holding their Buy a Brick Centennial Celebration Kick-off Friday, October 20, 2017 from 4-6pm. The address of the WDC is 802 Margaret Place, Shreveport, LA 71101. Dress is business casual and light appetizers and wine will be offered. This is your chance to buy an engraved brick for $100 to help fund restoration of the building and garden construction.
