It’s only a few weeks until school starts back up here in the Ark-La-Tex which means two more weekends of summer fun. Downtown Shreveport has quite a bit going on from the farmers market to SummerFest. But if mom and dad want to get a leg up on your back to school shopping free school supplies should help. You can get those at the “Back to School is Cool” event at the Pierre Bossier Mall. There’s a lot to do in Kiss Country this weekend, check out all the great events below.

First Ever Food Truck Rally: Today the CenturyLink Center will be hosting Bossier City’s first ever Food Truck Rally, the Parking Lot Picnic, on July 25 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. There will be at least seven area food trucks. In the interest of giving back to the community, the food vendors will pledge a percentage of the day’s sales to the animal rescues that will be on site. (more)

Fish Fry for the Salvation Army: Each year the Caddo Sheriff’s Deputies provide invaluable aid with the Salvation Army Angel Tree program which provides toys for less fortunate children at Christmas time. Today, July 25, those deputies will hold another fish fry to raise much needed funds to aid them in their efforts. From 10:30 am until 2:00 pm. (more)

South Highlands Summer Market: Mall St Vincent is the place for Shreveport’s new summertime Open-Air Market going through August 8th, every Friday evening from 5:00 to 9:00 pm under a large tent outside the mall adjacent to the historic St. Vincent Academy.(more)

Shrek the Musical: Shreveport Little Theatre and Academy. Make room for ogre-sized family fun as the greatest fairy tale never told comes to life in a whole new way in this breathtaking musical adaptation of the hit movie SHREK. The tale comes to life onstage. (more)

Greater Tuna: The Performing Arts of Bossier Parish Community College and the Cavalier Players announce the production of Greater Tuna. The comedy is scheduled to run July 25 – August 3 in BPCC’s Performing Arts Theatre, Building C on the BPCC Campus. Friday and Saturday Shows 7:30. Sunday shows at 2:00. The fictitious town of Tuna, Texas, is located in west Texas, about half-way between San Angelo and Hell. Though the action takes place in the early eighties, nothing has changed since then. (more)

Back To School Is Cool: Saturday, July 26th with KMSS Fox 33 at Pierre Bossier Mall from 11am – 2pm! You’ll want to get there early because the first 1,000 kids ages K-7th graders will score free school supplies and one lucky child will win the grand prize drawing which includes a laptop, school uniforms and a limo ride to school! Shreveport Farmers Market: The Saturday morning event at Festival Plaza kicks off at 7am features live music, homegrown fruits and vegetables. As well as, jams, jellies, prepared food, art and more. (more)

Haughton Farmer’s: Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00pm in their brand new location at the intersection of Highway 3227 and Allen Town Road beside Tuscany Subdivision and across from Cornerstone. The Haughton Farmer’s Market was created to provide local people with a venue to sell their produce, foods and crafts. (more)

SummerFest: To continue the season-long celebration of all things summer, the Red River Entertainment District (RRED) announces its July installment of SummerFest in the District. Local food trucks, area entertainment venues, live music and street performers round out the lineup for the mini family-friendly festival in the Red River Entertainment District this Saturday, July 26, from noon until 3:00 PM. El Karubah Shriners’ Louisiana Sportsman’s Taster: Saturday July 26 from 4:30 pm to 6:30pm to experience a taste of what the Louisiana outdoors has to offer! This annual event held at the El Karubah Shrine Temple on South Lakeshore Drive in Shreveport, will feature area sportsmen offering delectable samples of creative Louisiana cuisine, all in support of patient initiatives at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Shreveport. Each $25 donation provides a ticket for admission to this event. Your tickets will make for a great couple’s outing, company door prizes, or VIP gifts for your organization. (more)

Not Going Down Without a Fight: Fundraiser for Madison Jo Philyaw to aid in the fight for her life, friends and family, known as “Team Maddie Jo,” have planned the “Not Going Down Without a Fight” fundraiser. Saturday, July 26, starting at 11:00 am at Cash Point, there will be several ways for you to help including a “Bike Run” and silent auction. They’ll hold the “Team Maddie Jo Car Wash for Charity”. Fish Plates will be available for $10. And they’ll have loads of live music from The Syndicate, Cody Cooke and the Bayou Outlaws and more. (more)

Benton Farmers Market: The Sunday-only outdoor market held at 495 Simpson Street in downtown Benton, will open for its inaugural season, 12:30-5 p.m. (more)
