Two people have died after a two-car accident late last night on I-20 west in Shreveport.

Police say 32-year-old Daniel Balentine of Waskom, Texas, was headed east on I-20 near Greenwood Road just after 10 p.m., when his car was struck head-on by a Fiat 500 that was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane. Balentine was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Fiat's driver, identified only as a 25-year-old woman, died shortly after arriving at University Health. Her name hasn't been released pending notification of family.

Police say the crash sent the Fiat over the interstate's retaining wall, causing it to fall down onto the roadway below. Police are still investigating what caused the accident. Routine toxicology tests will be conducted.
