This Week’s Caught in the Act Award Goes to Mike Freeman
Mike Freeman is a big guy. But, apparently his heart is just as big as his stature. And you know you've done something pretty awesome when it's your boss who's actually nominated you for the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.
The Police Chief in Haughton is Todd Gibson, and in preface to Mike's nomination letter, Todd wrote, "I'm literally in tears as I write this." Okay, so not only is Mike good enough to make someone cry, but that someone is a guy. And not just any guy. He's the Chief of Police! Now that's saying something.
Course, once you read Mike's nomination letter from Todd, you'll see just how easy it was to name Mike the very first recipient of the Caught in the Act Award for 2020.
I have to brag for a minute. Being a Police Officer is abt having a heart, not abt making the most arrests or writing the most tickets, although arrests and tickets are a part of our job. It’s really abt giving back which is a part of “SERVE AND PROTECT”. We have been blessed the last few yrs to have people donate toys and clothes for kids and those in need as well as food boxes. We are thankful for those that give to HPD to help us give back. He’s not on Facebook but Mike Freeman (he will be mad at me for doing this) is a large man with an even bigger heart. I honestly believe all of us (not just police officers) can learn from him. He has taught me so much and I wish he had more opportunities to teach officers what it truly means to be a police officer. This guy always helps out, I hear it all the time from different people in the community. I am glad he works with me in Haughton. He has been helping deliver toys all week to kids as well as bringing kids to the police station to pick out toys. He rode with me to help deliver toys and food boxes. Mike does things like this all year, not just during Christmas. He has purchased items out of his own pocket for those in need numerous times. My name is Todd Gibson, Chief of Police in Haughton. I, as well as the Haughton community is honored to have him as one of our officers!! Thank you Mike Freeman!!!!
Mike Freeman, thank you for being one of the "good guys" and being a big reason why this is the greatest place in America to live!
And because you've been 'Caught in the Act' the gang at Silver Star Smokehouse have a $100 Gift Certificate for you and the family to come have dinner!
Take a listen to the phone call we made to Mike to let him know that he was this week's Caught In The Act Award recipient.
