Mary Freeland Is Latest Caught in the Act Award Winner

Mary Freeland is the heart and soul of Airline High School and her positive attitude is almost as infectious as her beautiful smile!

Amidst the biggest fight of her life, as she battles cancer, Mary's take on things is that, "I can't control my medical diagnosis, but I can control my attitude about it."

She's a winner through and through, but it took a nomination from her co-worker and biggest fan, Addison Burrell, for us to find out how incredible this woman truly is.

It's Mary's optimism, thoughtfulness and dedication to service that we celebrate this week. And now, because of her cancer battle, we also know to pray for her daily!

Mary Freeland is the heartbeat of Airline High School. She’s battling Stage 4 Metastatic Breast cancer, for the second time. Although her diagnosis is terminal, you’d never know that smiling face and enthusiastic personality was going through such a devastating time. She is the main office secretary at Airline and greets every single parent, student, visitor and coworker with a massive smile. She will take a half day for treatment, scans, and other appointments, and come right back to school to get back to work. She is uplifting, encouraging, and always smiling. Mary puts on “FriYays at the A,” a weekly display of appreciation to the faculty and staff at Airline, she coordinates events, and she helps with anything and everything. Mary has shown me, a first year employee, what it means to love where you work, love who you work with, and to go into each day with gratitude. The list could go on, and on, and on, but simply put, this world needs more Mary Freelands.
