Famous Shreveport Style Stuffed Shrimp Goes Big Time, Creates Jobs
Did you know that Shreveport style stuffed shrimp has a history that goes all the way back to the 1940s? It's true!
Have you ever had Shreveport-style stuffed shrimp?
I'll never forget the first time I had Shreveport-style stuffed shrimp. I was at Sam's Southern Eatery in Benton, LA with my friend Ken. I'm looking at the menu and all I could think is, I need the six-piece order, the three-piece will never be enough! Boy, was I wrong! Shreveport-style stuffed shrimp are big... like corn dog big! I had leftovers, needless to say!
What's the story behind Shreveport-style stuffed shrimp?
Shreveport-style stuffed shrimp got its start here in the 1940s at a restaurant called the Freeman and Harris Cafe. Now, Eddie's Seafood and Soul Food restaurant is one of our local restaurants known for the dish and they're recognized nationally! Want to try Shreveport-style stuffed shrimp at the place where folks come from miles around to eat? Head to Eddie's at 1956 Hollywood Avenue in Shreveport! Other restaurants (like Sam's) serve the dish, but I think it's probably a good idea to try the place that's so highly recommended by Southern Living!
What's the latest regarding Shreveport-style stuffed shrimp?
Remember me mentioning Eddie's restaurant? Well, the family behind Eddie's, Eddie and Lois Hughes along with their children, broke ground on a new manufacturing facility Friday, July 14, 2023, on North Market Street in Shreveport, LA, where they will be expanding their production of Shreveport-style stuffed shrimp and their signature tartar sauce. In fact, prior to opening Eddie's, Mr. Hughes was the 'head chef of the historic Freeman & Harris Cafe for over 35 years, (and) it was there while working at the Cafe at the age of 16, Chef Eddie Hughes created the infamous original recipe of the Shreveport Styled Stuffed Shrimp.' I think it's safe to say that not only will the Louisiana Stuffed Shrimp Co. make your taste buds happy, but they're also creating over 100 new jobs once their factory is complete which should make everyone happy!
