Iconic Local Foods: Shreveport Style Stuffed Shrimp
Did you know that Shreveport style stuffed shrimp has a history that goes all the way back to the 1940s? It's true!
I'll never forget the first time I had Shreveport style stuffed shrimp. I was at Sam's Southern Eatery in Benton with my friend Ken. I'm looking at the menu and all I could think is, I need the six-piece order, the three-piece will never be enough! Boy, was I wrong! Shreveport style stuffed shrimp are big... like corn dog big! I had leftovers, needless to say!
Shreveport style stuffed shrimp got its start here in the 1940s at a restaurant called the Freeman and Harris Cafe. Eddie's Seafood and Soul Food restaurant is one of our local restaurants known for the dish now and they're recognized nationally! Want to try Shreveport style stuffed shrimp at the place where folks come from miles around to eat? Head to Eddie's at 1956 Hollywood Avenue in Shreveport! I'm sure other restaurants (like Sam's) serve the dish, but I think it's probably a good idea to try the place that's so highly recommended by Southern Living!
