It had been a number of years since I had visited the Shreveport Elks Lodge, but a couple of years ago my wife and I were invited by a great friend to come see a concert.

That friend was Ricky Davis, the father of country sensation, Jordan Davis. Jordan was there to help raise money to refurbish the swimming pool at the lodge. I was also able to catch up with another dear friend at the event, Nashville singer/songwriter Stan Paul Davis, who happens to be Jordan's uncle.

It was an incredible night and after visiting with a number of lodge members, I learned just how valuable the Shreveport Elks Lodge is to our community.

They are a non-profit organization that funds veterans and veteran causes to the tune of $200,000 each year.

Few in the area know that the Shreveport Elks Lodge is the largest Elks lodge in all of Louisiana, and the swimming pool I referred to earlier is the largest pool in the Arklatex.

Well, they are preparing for another fundraiser and this one promises guaranteed laughter.

Tomorrow, October 9, at the Shreveport Elks Lodge at 310 East Preston Drive in the Broadmoor neighborhood of Shreveport, they'll feature The Amazing Dr. Z.

It's a one of a kind, hypnosis/comedy show, and while it's clean and family oriented, the Lodge does issue the warning that "It Is Not Politically Correct", so you'll probably want to wear your thick skin if attending.

The show begins at 5:00 pm and they promise to be done in time to watch the LSU game beginning at 6:30 pm.

Tickets for the event are $20 per person with all monies going directly to the Lodge Youth Activity Fund.

Lodge trustee, Clayton Cathey, tells me that seats are going quickly but there are a few remaining.  Those can be reserved by calling 318-868-5301.
