Places In The SBC You Can Get Lunch For Less Than $10
I try to pack a lunch as much as I can, but when I don't want to eat that left over gumbo for the fifth day in a row, I like to eat as cheaply as possible. Any lunch that costs more than $10 is out of my normal price range.
There are tons of fast food joints to take in for less than $10, but it is, after all, fast food. Wouldn't it be better to eat somewhere that is locally owned and that serves up good fresh eats on the cheap? The answer is "YES!"
In no particular order, here are four of my favorite places to grab a quick lunch, and you can get a full meal for less than $10 at all of them.
7013 Pines Rd
Shreveport, Louisiana 71129
Sammy's Smokehouse is a tiny barbecue place serving up all your smokey favorites. What I love is their sandwich special.
You can get a po-boy with your choice of meat, a side, and a drink for $7.99! It's topped with coleslaw, and they have squeezy bottles full of their house-made sauce on every table. It is some serious good eats, and you don't feel broke when you leave like at some barbecue places.
A little sleepy...but not broke.
7008 Pines Rd
Shreveport, LA 71129
Right next door to Sammy's (it's by my work...I don't like to drive far) is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the area. The Great Wall has been serving up delicious Asian cuisine for more than thirty years. They have a wide variety of lunch options there, and most of them will cost you less than a Hamilton.
My favorite is General Tso's Chicken. With a soft drink and tax, that dish, plus many others, will set you back only $9.98!
175 E Kings Hwy
Shreveport, LA 71104
If you know Shreveport, you know George's Grill.
Opened in 1960, George's has served hot plate lunches, along with other diner favorites to hungry Shreveporters for decades.
We recently lost founder George Casten, but his legacy lives on in that tiny spot on E. Kings. While many offerings hover around the $10 mark, they have daily plate lunches with your choice of meat and two for $6.95.
I could be satisfied with a tub of the Grecian dressing and be fine with life.
1770 E Texas St
Bossier City, LA 71111
When I'm in the mood for some fried goodness, I head to Captain LA. They seriously have some of the best fried fish and jumbo shrimp that I have ever tasted. It's another one of those places that FEEDS you for a ten spot.
Among their many lunch options is a plate that has two filets of fish, two enormous shrimp, and two sides for $6.99. You can add a 16 oz drink for another buck! Still under $10, and you won't be hungry for a while after.
