The family of Tommie McGlothen Jr, a man who died in police custody, is suing the City of Shreveport for $25 Million. The suit also names Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond and the 4 officers who were indicted and charged with negligent homicide & malfeasance: Treona McCarter, Brandon Ross, D'Marea Johnson and James LeClare.

McGlothen Jr. died back on April 5th after being detained by police following a fight with another man. Video has since surfaced of the encounter between McGlothen and officers. The video shows a physical struggle between both parties. McGlothen appears to have been tased, punched and struck with a baton numerous times. Before arriving to the scene, officers were notified that McGlothen suffered from mental health issues.

Caddo Parish Coroner Dr. Todd Thoma ruled that McGlothen's death was preventable and that officers should have known that McGlothen needed medical treatment. It is believed that officers used excessive force and that they failed to call for proper medical treatment. The 4 officers named in the suit were indicted by a grand jury on criminal charges including negligent homicide and malfeasance.

The McGlothen family is being represented by attorney James Carter and the Cochran Firm.
