Shreveport Police Identify Facebook Marketplace Stolen Car Suspect
If you’ve been scrolling through your Facebook feed today, you’ve likely seen a mugshot popping up over and over again. It’s one of those posts that makes you do a double-take, but the story behind the viral photo is even more wild than what you’re seeing in the headlines.
It’s a situation that honestly breaks our hearts because, in a city like Shreveport, we’re all just trying to catch a break. Imagine thinking you finally found your dream car at a "steal" of a price on Facebook Marketplace, only to realize the vehicle was literally a steal.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, what started as a "good deal" online quickly spiraled into a multi-layered stolen vehicle investigation. On March 17, SPD detectives began tracking a vehicle that had been taken from the DriveTime lot. They eventually located it at a home in Caddo Parish, but there was a major twist: the person who had the car genuinely believed she had purchased it legally.
As detectives dug deeper, they uncovered an even bigger problem. This wasn’t an isolated incident.
This was actually the second vehicle stolen from DriveTime and sold on Marketplace by the same person. In both cases, the victims were handed fake paperwork, including a Bill of Sale and a "Texas title" that looked legitimate but turned out to be completely fictitious.
Through some solid investigative work and social media evidence, SPD has identified the suspect as 18-year-old Christian Devante Efferson. He’s currently wanted for two counts of Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, and police say more charges are likely on the way.
We need to make sure this fraudster doesn’t scam anyone else in our community. If you have any idea where he might be, please reach out to the Shreveport Police at 318-673-7300 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
