SHREVEPORT, LA-   Man threatens Repo Agent with Firearm

On August 3rd, 2023, at 9:54 p.m., Shreveport Police officers responded to a call of an armed person in the 8500 block of Edgewood Place. Responding officers found that a male was reportedly armed with a handgun and threatening to shoot another man.

Further investigation revealed that Ladarius Madison (12-27-00) was involved in a dispute with a repo agent who was repossessing a vehicle from the residence. Madison reportedly produced a firearm and threaten to shoot the victim.

Madison was arrested by patrol officers and charged with one count of aggravated assault with a Firearm. No persons were injured in this incident.

Louisiana law allows repossessions as long as the repossession can be accomplished without any "breach of the peace."  According to Upsolve.org:

Louisiana repossession laws require repossession agents to get a license from the state of Louisiana’s Office of Financial Institutions. The repo company may only proceed with a repossession without going through a judicial process or getting a court order if they’re able to do so without a breach of the peace. This means that they can’t use force, threats, or intimidation while repossessing your car. While they can take your car from any public space, they can only take the vehicle from your property if they’re able to do so without breaching the peace. They can’t break locks or force through fences to retrieve the car.

You’re also not allowed to commit a breach of the peace during the repo process.

We must remind that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
