LA 537 to Shut Down Feb 25: What North Bossier Drivers Need to Know
Much like the year-long construction project on LA 160 in the Benton area, Plain Dealing drivers will soon have to learn to make trips "the long way around."

In an effort to increase public safety, three separate aging bridges in north Bossier Parish, which are all at least fifty years old, are set to be replaced and according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, that work will begin this coming Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
DOTD says this $5.9 million project has been set to replace three bridges on a section of LA 537 near Plain Dealing in north Bossier Parish.
Due to the extensive work being done, a total road closure will be necessary on LA 537 from Arkansas Line Road to LA 3 and the entire project is expected to wrap up in approximately one year, in early 2027.
In the first stage of construction, the contractor will remove the existing structures over Stillhouse Bayou, Posten Bayou, and a smaller unnamed waterway. Then those structures will be replaced with new, modernized concrete bridges.

The project also includes clearing and grubbing, guardrail installation, new asphalt paving, signage and fresh roadway striping.
During construction, DOTD suggests taking alternate routes including LA 3 and LA 2. Detour signage will be posted.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
