Ceremony To Honor Fallen Law Enforcement Officers

Local law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty will be honored in a ceremony Wednesday, May 18 at Liberty Garden in the Bossier City Municipal Complex. The Peace Officers’ Memorial ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. and will pay tribute to those law enforcement officers from local agencies who lost their lives in the line of duty. The public is invited.

In a press release from Bossier City, Public Information Officer, Lt. Bill Davis explains that the memorial is an annual event coincides with a national day of respect.

The ceremony is being held during National Police Week when communities across the country come together to honor those law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as show respect to their family members, friends and fellow officers.

The event will pay tribute to the 39 officers and deputies from Bossier and Caddo Parishes killed in the line of duty since 1894. Agencies participating are the Bossier and Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Offices, Bossier City and Shreveport Police Departments, Louisiana State Police - Troop G, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, as well as the Bossier City and Shreveport Marshals Offices.

Mark Hutchison, father of Trey Michael Hutchison, Bossier City Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty in 2004, will be the guest speaker.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 of each year as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day in honor of the federal, state and municipal officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty.

Parking will be limited right next to the ceremony site, but First Baptist Bossier says guests are welcome to park in their parking lot just across Beckett St. The ceremony will be held just outside the Bossier City Fire Department entrance by the Liberty Garden. In case of rain, the ceremony will held in the lobby of the Bossier Civic Center.
