Caddo Sheriff Announces Occupant Protection Checkpoints
Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator said deputies will conduct occupant protection checkpoints at multiple locations this week and during the Memorial Day weekend as part of the nationwide "Click it or Ticket" enforcement initiative. Deputies on regular patrol and those working overtime on a Louisiana Highway Safety Commission grant will be looking to make sure motorists are buckling up and wearing their seatbelt properly.
All children should be properly secured in age-appropriate child restraints that are properly installed in the vehicle. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office offers free child safety seat checkups by appointment at its substations and Sheriff's Safety Town. The Louisiana State Police also offer checkups by appointment. About two-thirds of people killed in crashes locally over the past five years were unrestrained. Research indicates that proper restraint use is the best way to reduce the chance of injury or death from a motor vehicle crash. Sheriff Prator reminds everyone to buckle up on every trip. Don't drink and drive, and report unsafe driving to your local law enforcement agency.
