This Friday, April 18, America will celebrate National Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet Day, and if you intend to participate, the Caddo Sheriff's Office wants to give you a safe alternative for that drug disposal.

If you're planning to dispose of those old, out-of-date prescription drugs, please don't take the easy route and flush them down the toilet. The potential danger they pose to our ecosystem through the septic system is unfathomable.

Instead, the Caddo Sheriff's Department will again provide a safe alternative to dispose of those unneeded medications with a "Drug Take Back Day."

Again this year, citizens are encouraged to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs on Saturday, April 26, at Sheriff's Safety Town. The event is part of the National Drug Take Back Day, hosted twice each year by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The Caddo Sheriff's Office, in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will be collecting old, unwanted, and expired pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

This event will be held at Sheriff's Safety Town, 8910 Jewella Avenue at the west end of the Summer Grove parking lot and will be free of charge.

Deputies will be on hand to collect and properly dispose of prescription and over-the-counter medications, such as tablets, capsules, and sealed liquids. All identifying information such as name, address, and prescription number should be removed. Intra-venous solutions, injectables, and needles will not be accepted.

If you are unable to attend the event at Safety Town on April 26, you can still utilize the drug dropbox, which is available every weekday from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. It's located on the first floor at Government Plaza, 505 Travis Street.

Louisiana's 21 Most Wanted Criminals

While some of these have been missing for over 50 years and are likely deceased, many have escaped prison in the past 10 years and could likely still be in Louisiana so keep your eyes peeled and should you spot one of these criminals, immediately contact police.
