We all love to save money here and there. One of the biggest expenses in many families is the grocery bill. Have you ever made a "generic mistake" that you swore you would never make again? What are the rules of buying generic? We're talking food products, toilet paper, medicines, all of it.

(Tracy) I'd rather cut coupons or splurge for the "real deal" when it comes to Coca-Cola. To me there is absolutely no substitute for real Coke. But Dr. Thunder and "fake" Sprite are perfectly fine with me, it's just the "fake" Coke that I can't do.

Other generics that both Gary and myself say we will never purchase again: ketchup, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, and macaroni and cheese. Gary also says he refuses to buy generic ibuprofen, its Advil all the way for him. Me, I'm buying the cheap ibuprofen, acetaminophen, etc. It doesn't bother me one bit.

What are the worst generic products you've ever purchased?
