What Weather Records Do Plain Dealing and Minden, Louisiana Hold?

When you think about Louisiana and record-breaking weather, I automatically assume we're talking about extreme storms in south Louisiana. Believe it or not, these two crazy weather extremes happened right here in northwestern Louisiana!

According to Stacker.com, Minden, LA holds the record for the lowest all-time temperature recorded in Louisiana at -16° F.

You might think that's a misprint, but it's not. That temperature was recorded in Minden all the way back on February 13, 1899. I don't know about you, but I would never associate Louisiana with temperatures that low. The Arctic Circle? Yes. Louisiana? That's a hard no. Because I live in Louisiana, when I think of an igloo, I associate it with a cooler, not a house!

According to Stacker.com, Plain Dealing, LA holds the record for the highest all-time temperature recorded in Louisiana at 114° F.

Once again, that's not a misprint. It was 114° in Plain Dealing, LA on August 10, 1936. Keep in mind, we didn't have air conditioning at that point in time. Can you imagine how miserable that must have been? No, thank you!

Hackberry, Louisiana in Cameron Parish holds the record for the most rain in a 24-hour period in Louisiana. They received a whopping 22 inches of precipitation on August 28th and 29th, 1962, as a result of a tropical depression. The highest amount of snowfall ever recorded in Louisiana took place in Colfax on February 13, 1960. They got 13 inches of the white stuff. I'm kinda disappointed 2021's 'Snowmagedden' didn't make the list. That was something, to say the least.
