Caddo deputies responded to two well fires believed to have been caused by lightning strikes. The first happened at about 11am on the west side of Highway 1 near Benteler Drive. The tank contained crude oil and salt water. The tank is owned by QEP Resources. A few hours later, another tank caught fire on the east side of Highway 1 at Bunker Road. This tank contained oil and salt water and is owner by Aethon Energy.

Both fires have been contained and are being allowed to burn themselves out. No one was injured in either fire. Traffic was re-routed in both areas.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Department released video of some of the damage in that area. A mother and child died in the storms, the result of high winds.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office identifies the victims of the storm as 38 year old Francine Gotch and her 3 year old daughter, Neville Alexander. They were in a mobile home at the time of the storm,

Shreveport leaders also have crews on standby as this severe weather system moves through. Mayor Ollie Tyler issued this statement:

“Public safety is our main priority and the citizens of Shreveport can be assured that city crews are currently focusing all efforts on monitoring these ongoing events. We are committed to act swiftly and appropriately to secure the safety of our citizens.”

Citizens are urged to take the necessary safety precautions, and in the case of an emergency, to call 911. For non-emergencies, residents should call 675-2151 to report any other weather related issues.
