The 2021 Independence Bowl Is A Saturday Game On ABC Network
The 2021 Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl is going to be a splash return for Shreveport's college bowl game! After missing 2020, due to various issues that can all be tied to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indy Bowl will get a prime date, time slot, and network for 2021.
This year's Indy Bowl will be played on Saturday, December 18th, at 2:30pm on ABC Network. That's right, a pre-Christmas Saturday on ABC.
For 2021, the Indy Bowl is set to have BYU take on a team from Conference USA. Of course, BYU has to become bowl-eligible, and Conference USA would need to be able to fill their commitment as well.
Independence Bowl Executive Director Missy Setters said in a release:
“This game date and time allows us to not only showcase Radiance Technologies, our city and region to millions of viewers across the country, but also gives us the flexibility to plan a great bowl week lineup of events that will appeal to both fans traveling in to follow their teams and locals looking for entertainment options for the whole family in mid-December."
The 2021 Indy Bowl will mark the first Saturday date for the game since 2015. That year's edition of the game saw Virginia Tech play the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, which was the final career game for legendary Virginia Tech Coach Frank Beamer. This year's return to ABC will also be the first time the game has been featured on the national broadcast network since the 2014 matchup of the Miami Hurricanes and South Carolina Gamecocks, a game that would mark the final Bowl Game in legendary coach Steve Spurrier's career.
