Wondering how to put green into your Saint Patrick's Day? Cultural Crossroads is looking for volunteers on Saturday, March 17, for their community workday, which will prepare the Farm for a variety of spring events including this year's Chickenstock Festival.  The Farm, located at 419 East Union in Minden (the corner of Talton St. and East Union, next to SaveAlot), is home to the Chickenstock festival, formerly known as Spring Arts Festival. Chickenstock will be held April 26 through 28 and according to Chris Broussard, preparation of the Farm's 4 acre grounds is needed.  "We need help planting trees and flowers and painting murals," Broussard said. "There are a variety of things we need to accomplish. No matter your age, from child to elderly, or the amount of time you can volunteer, an hour or all day, there is a way you can help."  Volunteers are asked to bring their work or gardening gloves, other tools and a a sack lunch that can be enjoyed on the Farm's grounds.  "Volunteers are vital to Cultural Crossroads," Broussard said. "We are the only 501 non-profit arts agency in Webster parish, and we have been around for 19 years. Our volunteers are what have kept us going so long and will keep us going for years to come."  Cultural Crossroads focuses on making the arts accessible to children in the community. One way that goal is accomplish is through the Spring Arts Festival- or Chickenstock, which has been an annual event for the past 18 years.  The first Spring Arts Festival was completely funded be cooperate dollars and business support. Today and for the past 17 years, the festival has been supported in part by decentralized grant dollars from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, the Louisiana Office of Recreation and Tourism and the Shreveport Arts Council as well as corporate supporters.  "Cooperate sponsors are key to sustaining the festival," Broussard said. "We have recently sent out request to our patrons asking them to continue their support. We are blessed to live in a charitable community and look forward to hearing from returning and new sponsors, as well as repeat and first time volunteers."  Groups or individuals wanting to help during the community workday, as well as business interested in supporting the upcoming Spring Arts Festival, should contact Broussard at 318-393-5991 or email cbroussard@earthlink.net.
