I-220 Shreveport: Emergency Lane Closure TODAY
If you have driven I-220 just west of the Cross Lake Bridge in Shreveport lately, you've become well too acquainted with the huge concrete buckle in the road that has made driving conditions extremely dangerous.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has been made aware of the same problem and have announced that they will address the issue today with an emergency lane closure of the heavily traveled bypass.
DOTD has announced that today, Thursday, July 10, from approximately 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, they will close the inside (left) lane of I-220 westbound between the Cross Lake Bridge and Lakeshore Drive in an effort to perform emergency roadway repair.
In an announcement from DOTD, they write that "Periods of extreme heat can cause concrete pavement to expand, resulting in buckling at the roadway joints that can occur quickly and without warning. DOTD crews are prepared to address these ‘blow-ups’, as they’re commonly referred to.
As with all projects of this nature, the work will be performed "Weather Permitting" so inclement weather could delay, extend, or alter in other ways the scheduled work day/hours.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
