If you normally use I-49 north to access I-20 in Shreveport, you might want to begin considering an alternative for one night next week.

An alert recently issued by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is advising all drivers that next Tuesday night, September 29, the right lane of I-49 northbound at the I-20 interchange (Exit 206) in Shreveport will be closed.

Additionally, the left lane of the exit ramp will be closed.

According to details in the alert, DOTD must close these lanes from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am in order to make much needed repairs to the crash attenuator at the exit. The good news is that the exit ramp itself will remain open while the repairs are being made.

For those unaware, a crash attenuator is a roadway safety device designed to absorb a vehicle’s energy in a collision, reducing the potential for serious injury.

Obviously, weather plays a major role in completing a project of this kind, so inclement weather could delay, extend, or alter in other ways the scheduled work night/hours.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
