Shreveport High School Sees More Coronavirus Woes

After being forced to cancel two football games last week, Southwood High School is transitioning to virtual instruction due to COVID-19.

Caddo Parish Public Schools made the announcement that Southwood High School would be closed to in-person learning and moving to virtual studies starting tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27, 2020, through at least Friday, October 30, 2020. While the school is thoroughly cleaned, students will learn daily through Caddo's Canvas learning platform. Here's more from Caddo Parish Public Schools' Asst. Director of Communications, Charnae McDonald:

The decision (to transition Southwood High School to online learning) comes as the district has been unable to adequately provide substitute teachers to cover classes for individuals quarantined as part of Caddo’s aggressive steps to contain COVID-19. Last week, the district announced three individuals associated with the Southwood football team had tested positive for the virus and prompted the entire team to be quarantined. Since that time, contact tracing has called for additional individuals to be quarantined as a precaution to curb the spread of the virus.

Being that it's the lack of availability of substitute teachers that is partially to blame for hindering progress when it comes to in-person instruction, Caddo Parish Schools are hoping to recruit more subs. If you're interested in applying to become a substitute teacher in Caddo Parish, click here.
