Residents Speak Out Saying These Are the Worst Roads in NWLA
In what we call the annual "Battle of the Barrels", road construction barrels that is, we've determined from local residents that some of our roads, or at least stretches of certain roads, are among the worst in North America, and for sure in Northwest Louisiana.
The Bossier Parish Police Jury recently released details of several upcoming road projects that they would be starting in the next couple of weeks, and I was totally shocked to see that the one mile stretch of Winnfield Road just east of Bellevue Road in north Bossier Parish, was not on the list. How could this be? It's awful. I'm certain there have been countless thousands of dollars of vehicle damages caused by this stretch. And though I'm hoping this never happens, I'm really afraid there will be a terrible head-on collision attributed to this road. It's just an accident waiting to happen.
However, that's just my vote, and a huge portion of our population isn't affected by that stretch, so in an effort to find out just what road needs the most TLC from the repair crews, we opened the "Battle of the Barrels" and the response was huge.
When I posted this on my Facebook page, there were those who took the opportunity to see the humor in just how bad our roads are. My own cousin, Jennifer Brummett, wrote "Can we just list the good ones? I think it'll be easier." Then I got this from Dennis, "Is this a trick question? The whole state of Louisiana." Phillip wrote, "All of Shreveport. Haha."
The general consensus is that we really do have some bad roads in our neck of the woods, but the Jimmie Davis Bridge and I-20 in Bossier City appear to be our overall gold medal "Worst Roads Around" with comments like what Donna wrote; "Jimmie Davis Bridge is so scary." Walt and Teresa both chimed in about how bad the bridge is.
I-20 was also well represented with reports of how bad it is throughout the entire Shreveport/Bossier area, especially the westbound stretch between Airline Drive and Benton Road overpass in Bossier City, and the eastbound side of the same stretch isn't much better. Commenting about the worst roads around, Michael wrote: I-20 through Bossier, both directions. Hands down.
Other entries included Knight Street in Shreveport, Southland Park Drive in Shreveport, the westbound entrance ramp to I-20 from Benton Road in Bossier City, Highway 5 from Keachi to Kingston and several others.
