Remember several years back when the Louisiana Game Warden fired several tranquilizer darts into a "black bear" that was supposedly up a tree in Desoto Parish?  And how that "black bear" turned out to be a GARBAGE BAG that had stuck in the tree?

Well that kinda pales in comparison to this one.  Apparently, some people are so afraid of alligators, they don't even need to be real to cause a commotion.

Three police officers in Independence, Missouri fired gunshots at a gator near a pond last Sunday before realizing it was actually a lawn ornament.

Rick Sheridan, who owns the decorative piece, was working in his garage when he heard gunfire. He ran to his backyard towards the pond where he saw the cops going all Tackleberry on his statue after they had lined up along a bank like Union soldiers at Antietam.

Sheridan said, "The officer fired two rounds and killed my concrete, ornamental alligator."

Once police discovered the ornament posed as much threat as a schoolgirl they said, "See ya later, alligator" and left the scene.
