Now, Benton Traffic Could Get Ugly With Bridge Replacement
Motorists who normally head east of Benton on LA 160 towards Butler Hill Road or 7 Pines Road will soon have to find an alternative route.
In a notice from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development we find that a $4 million project to remove and replace two bridges located on LA 160 over Cypress Bayou and Cypress Bayou Relief in north Bossier Parish is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 14.
The work will begin with initial clearing and grubbing activities to remove any vegetation in the footprint of the construction area. With these activities, LADOTD will need to close these two bridges for approximately two weeks.
However, because of the lengthy lead time on materials, the bridges will be reopened to traffic after the initial clearing and will remain open until materials are received and bridge removal and construction is ready to begin. DOTD will send additional notification when that occurs.
These bridges are located in close proximity to each other, just east of the intersection with LA 3, about 6.5 miles north of the Town of Benton.
The DOTD reminds all that this is a total road closure for the two week duration of the initial clearing/grubbing. All vehicles will need to utilize an alternate route during this time.
This work will be performed WEATHER PERMITTING, so inclement weather could postpone, lengthen or alter the days/hours of the work schedule.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
