Expect Delays as DOTD Repairs Buckled Concrete on Shreveport I-49

The sweltering summer heat wave currently putting a strangle-hold on all of northwest Louisiana has wreaked havoc on another heavily traveled Shreveport highway.

In what has become somewhat of a weekly summer routine, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has issued notice to all drivers in the area that they will have to close some lanes on I-49 to allow for crews to do repairs caused by heat buckling of the concrete.

DOTD states that they will close the following lanes on I-49 at the Pierremont Road/Hollywood Avenue interchange (Exit 203) in Shreveport:

• Tuesday, August 18: I-49 southbound, two outside (right) lane closures
• Wednesday, August 19: I-49 southbound, two inside (left) lane closures

These lane closures are scheduled to take place from approximately 6:00 am to 3:00 pm on each of these two days, but DOTD writes that the entrance/exit ramps at this interchange will remain open.

Periods of extreme heat can cause pavement to expand, resulting in cracks and buckling at the roadway joint, commonly referred to as a ‘blow up.’ DOTD crews remain prepared during the summer months to address these issues as they arise.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
