Remember the first time you saw a "Fried Twinkie" at the State Fair?  Or a fried Snickers bar?  Seems like “Fair Food” has come a long way from the days of old with just funnel cakes, turkey legs and corn on the cob…though those are still some of my favorites.  With the Louisiana State Fair coming October 27, I’m thinking we might see some “new culinary creations” this year.  Things like “Fried Bubblegum”….oh yeah, it’s local dentists’ favorite.   It’s a concoction of pink marshmallows blended in bubblegum extract and fried in bubblegum batter and was just named “Most Creative Food” by State Fair of Texas judges. “It’s ooey, gooey and sticky,” said fair judge Kristi Scales.  “I recommend parents bring some Handi Wipes.” It’s topped with blue icing and sprinkled with Chiclets. Justin Martinez, the creator said he first tried to actually fry bubblegum. “It absolutely was a disaster”.  “It just sits there and you bite into it and all you’re really eating is oil.” The judges also picked Buffalo Chicken in a Flapjack – a fried buffalo chicken strip coated with flapjack batter and jalapeno crumbs and served with syrup.
