Meredith Duncan Is This Week’s Recipient of Caught in the Act Award [VIDEO]
One can only imagine what it would be like to be a retired professional golfer. Some would be content to spend their remaining days on the local golf course, camped out at the nineteenth hole and just re-telling the same tired old stories about how great things were when they were playing.
Not Meredith Duncan. Nope, that's not her style. She's spending these golden years spreading her love of sports with the youth of Byrd High School. Not only does she give them a great example as a role model, she truly takes an interest in each and every student/athlete that is blessed to have her come into their lives.
Just read the nomination letter that Michelle Weddleton sent us about Meredith and you'll see why it was so easy to name Meredith as this week's recipient of the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.
There are many titles that Meredith Duncan goes by- LPGA Golfer (retired), 2019 LSU Hall of Fame inductee (only the 2nd ladies golfer to receive this honor), Coach Duncan, Mere, daughter, sister, and aunt. I am proud to know her as friend. I met Meredith 3 years ago when our boys (my son and her nephew) walked onto the C.E. Byrd baseball field. Little did I know at the time what she really meant to "The City" and what she would grow to mean to me. You see, Meredith is more than the Pep Squad sponsor, girls P.E. teacher, Boys and Girls Golf Team and Girls Basketball coach-although those 5 things alone require a herculean task of time management and stamina! She is a mom and mentor to so many of our kids. She is also their biggest fan! When not coaching or cheering on our Yellow Jackets, she can be found challenging boys to free throw contests, feeding the baseball team at Byrd, tossing a softball with kids between double headers, and playing a round of golf with former students, current golf team or non team members simply because they asked. Over Spring Break, when many of us teachers were taking a much needed breather, Meredith took her team camping. Was she paid for this, no. She did this for her genuine love of the kids in our community. She gives so much of her time and talents to the kids in our community without asking for anything in return. They are drawn to her, as we all are.
Meredith Duncan, thank you for being an inspiration to us all and a big reason why this is the greatest place in America to live!
And because you've been "Caught in the Act" the gang at Silver Star have a $100 Gift Certificate for you to come have dinner on them!
Take a listen to the phone call we made to Meredith to let her know that she was this week's Caught In The Act Award recipient.
