This is Bertie Baker.  Don't you just want to hug her?  Hard to believe that she's been an educator in Hooks, Texas for over 40 years, but she says "the kids keep her young."  Each week as we go through scores of entries for Kiss Country's "Caught in the Act Award" we always see an entry that stands out from the crowd and this one was just too easy!

Here's the entry we received from Jocelyn Fullerton, who's definitely "caught" Bertie doing lots of awesome things!

Ms. Baker has taught at Hooks high for over 40 years: she is a Sr. English teacher and Sr. Class Sponsor. She works all football, basketball, baseball and volleyball games. She has all Sr. kids to her home every year for a cookout before graduation and does all the traveling activities prior to graduation. She is an inspiration to all of the rest of the teachers in Hooks ISD and is still such a go-getter at 75 years young. We look forward to her returning as a dual-credit teacher for her college course!

And when we called Bertie to inform her of the award, we almost didn't get to talk because she was just about to leave on a trip with the Senior class.  Now, that's dedication!

It's people like Ms. Baker that build character, and lead by example, for generations of youth in East Texas and for that, we'll be eternally grateful.

In recognition for her life of contributions, we've awarded Bertie Baker this week's "Caught in The Act" award recipient, and with that comes a $100 Visa Gift Card with the only stipulation that she MUST spend it on herself.

Thank you Bertie for making Kiss Country such an awesome place to live!  We are truly honored to say that you've been "Caught In The Act" of doing good.

Take a listen to Bertie as we informed her of this award.
