Marine Sgt. Ross Gundlach spent his tour of duty in Afghanistan as a dog handler.  During that time, one dog in particular, a yellow lab named Casey, became his constant companion.  So much so that Gundlach told Casey he'd look her up when he returned stateside.

Gundlach stated, "I promised her if we made it out of alive, I'd do whatever it took to find her."

This past Friday, state officials in Iowa helped him make good on that vow with a surprise ceremony.  Read the full story at Yahoo.com of how the Iowa State Fire Director and the Iowa Elks association reunited the two in a surprise ceremony.

When Gundlach saw Casey, he put his head in his hands and cried. She licked his face, wagging her tail furiously.

"It was a total surprise," he said. "I owe her. I wouldn't be here ... any kids I ever had wouldn't exist if Casey hadn't been here," he went on to say. "I'll just try to give her the best life I can."
