LSU Holds Off Strong First Half From NSU, Wins 65-14
Gotta be honest, they had them in the first quarter.
At the end of the first 20 minutes, Northwestern State found themselves with a 7-3 lead over the 4th ranked team in the nation. The LSU Tigers couldn't seem to contain NSU quarterback Shelton Eppler and his Demon wide receivers.
However, once the Tigers got their legs under them, they didn't look back. By halftime the Tigers had busted out to a 24-14 lead, then went on to shutout the Demons in the second half. Final score on the night was 65-14.
NSU came into the game 0-2, and by all accounts, was just hoping to cash their massive paycheck from LSU, take in the sights of Tiger Stadium under the lights, and leave without any injuries. But when the Demons started hot, there were clearly tense moments starting to occur on both sidelines.
By the end of the night, Eppler threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns for the Demons, a very respectable stat line against a Top 5 in the nation Tigers defense.
For LSU, Joe Burrow continues to tear it up, going 21/24 with 373 yards and 2 touchdowns. Burrow did throw an interception tonight, and he also added a rushing touchdown.
On the ground for LSU, there were no massive totals for any player, but Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Tyrion Davis-Price both had two rushing touchdowns for the Tigers. John Emery Jr. also added a rushing touchdown.
In the air, Bossier City's Terrace Marshall Jr. snagged two more receiving touchdowns, which now gives him 6 on the season. Over the course of three games, the former Parkway Panther has 16 catches for 229 yards.
Next up, the Tigers travel to Vanderbilt for an early kickoff next Saturday. The game will get underway at 11am Central time.
